Collections: virtual folders for photos and videos on Mac
Invenio 0.5.1 adds Collections, a new way to organize photos and videos on Mac. Gather files into virtual folders for a project, topic, or idea while keeping the originals in their existing locations.
What changed
- Virtual folders for your media library. Create named collections to group photos and videos around the way you work.
- Save a whole set of search results. Use All Results → New Collection to keep the files you have just found together.
- Add selected files by dragging. Hold Command (⌘) and click to choose individual files, or select all results, then drag them into a collection.
- Search within a collection. Open a collection and narrow your search to the files in that group.
Organize files without moving or duplicating them
A folder on disk describes where a file lives. A collection describes how you want to use it. Collections are virtual folders inside Invenio, so you can organize files without moving them or making extra copies of your footage and photos.
Your existing folder structure can stay organized by shoot, date, or drive. Collections give you another way to browse the same media: by client project, subject, visual reference, or the shots you want to review next.
This adds a practical layer of media library organization to Invenio's folder tree and multi-folder search. Use folders to navigate your storage and collections to gather a working selection.
Turn AI video search results into a collection
Finding useful footage is only the first step. With Invenio's offline AI video search, you can search for a scene such as “mountains,” then save the matching files to a new collection using All Results → New Collection. Name it for your project or subject and return to that set of files later.
You can also build a smaller selection. Command-click the files you want to keep together and drag them into a collection. If you want the whole result set, select all the results and drag them in together. Open the collection whenever you want to browse or search that group again.
A photo and video organizer for your next project
If you are looking for a video file organizer for Mac or photo organizing software for an existing library, collections help bridge the gap between finding media and keeping it ready to use. They work as named groups of source files inside your media browser.
- B-roll collections: gather city scenes, mountain footage, or product shots for an upcoming edit. See the B-roll search workflow.
- Photo collections: keep a selection of images together for a mood board, visual reference, or client project.
- Video collections: organize clips you want to revisit for a documentary, YouTube video, or other edit.
Local media organization on Mac
For creators exploring digital asset management for Mac, Collections adds a way to group media alongside Invenio's search tools. Invenio processes media locally on your Mac, so organizing your video and photo library fits the same private workflow as offline AI media search.
