Offline media copies: prepare footage for editing anywhere

Invenio 0.5.3 lets you save offline copies of videos, photos, and audio on your Mac. Browse, watch, search, and organize your saved media while traveling, even with external drives disconnected.

What changed in Invenio 0.5.3

An offline media library for travel

Your footage may live on an external SSD, a hard drive, or a studio archive, but you do not always have that storage with you. Save offline copies before a trip and use the time on a train, on a flight, or away from your desk to review the material you need.

Watch saved videos, look through photos, and review audio files. Search and organize that saved media on your Mac so you can arrive with a clearer idea of what belongs in the edit.

Browse and search media with external drives disconnected

If you are looking for a way to search disconnected external drives or browse footage without plugging in a hard drive, Invenio's offline copies let you keep the media you need available locally. Connect your source storage and save the copies first. You can then disconnect the external drive and continue working with the saved files.

Offline copies make the saved media itself available for review. Choose the videos, photos, and audio you need for the next stage of your project and prepare them before you leave.

Prepare footage for editing while traveling

Reviewing source material and gathering useful files takes time before you even start arranging a timeline. Invenio helps you do that preparation wherever you have your Mac.

  1. Before you leave: connect your storage and save offline copies of the media you want to review.
  2. On the road: browse the saved files, watch footage, and search for the material you need with the external drive disconnected.
  3. Prepare your selections: organize files into Collections for a project, scene, or topic, ready to guide your next editing session.

For example, gather a B-roll selection for a YouTube video, review saved material for a documentary, or organize photos and audio around a client brief. Use Invenio to find and prepare your media, then assemble the edit in your video editor.

Smaller offline copies for viewing and selecting footage

Offline copies are compressed to take up less space on your Mac. Their quality is reduced to keep file sizes smaller while retaining enough detail to comfortably watch footage, review photos, and choose material for your edit while traveling.

Manage offline storage in Settings

Saved media uses storage on your Mac. Invenio 0.5.3 adds offline storage management in Settings so you can manage the space used by these copies as your projects and travel plans change.

More responsive browsing on network drives

This release also improves responsiveness when working with network drives. If your library lives on a NAS, see the NAS media search workflow for working with storage mounted on your Mac.

Questions about offline media copies

Can I browse photos and videos without the external drive connected?

Yes. In Invenio 0.5.3, save offline copies while the source storage is available. You can then browse, search, and organize that saved media with the external drive disconnected.

Can I save audio files for offline use too?

Yes. Offline copies support videos, photos, and audio files.

Does offline mean no internet or no external drive?

Invenio's offline AI media search runs locally on your Mac without cloud processing. Offline copies address access to your media: save them in advance so the files you need remain available when the external drive is disconnected.

Where can I manage offline storage?

Open Settings in Invenio to manage offline storage.
