For Apple Silicon Macs. Visual search is free. Speech search requires Pro.
Invenio is a Mac app that searches the content of videos and photos in folders you add, including accessible NAS folders and external drives. AI processing runs on your Mac; the NAS stores the source media.
01
The archive can keep its folder names.
Client names, camera cards, dates, backups. They made sense when you filed them. Months later, a request like “the wide shot of the workshop” gives you very little to type into Finder. Invenio searches visual content, so you can start with what you remember seeing.
02
Find the scene. Then narrow the options.
Start broad, preview the candidates, then filter by file creation date, quality, orientation, or video duration. If several exports look alike, those details help you choose the one that fits the job. Creation date means the file’s creation date; it may differ from the original shoot date after copying or exporting.
03
A smoother trip through network folders.
Invenio 0.4.1 improves folder navigation and browsing on NAS drives, network stability, video previews, and memory usage. That makes the search-and-review loop easier to work through when your library lives off your Mac. Read the NAS update notes.
Mount your NAS share in Finder and make sure your Mac can open the media. For an external drive, connect it before adding its folders.
Add a focused folder
Add the project or archive folder to Invenio and let indexing finish. Start with one useful collection before taking on the whole archive.
Search, preview, use
Describe a scene or search spoken words with Pro. Refine the results, preview the source, and drag the file into an editor that accepts file drops.

Before you start
A few practical questions.
Does Invenio run on the NAS itself?
No. Invenio runs on your Apple Silicon Mac and accesses the folders available to it. You do not install Invenio as a server application on the NAS.
Can I search an external drive too?
Yes. Add accessible folders from an external drive and let Invenio index them. Keep the drive connected when indexing or opening source media.
Does NAS support mean a shared team index?
NAS access describes where your media is stored. It does not mean that multiple Macs share one Invenio search index or that the app manages team permissions.
Do I need to upload my archive?
No cloud upload is required for media analysis. Invenio processes media on your Mac. Reading files from a NAS still requires access to that network storage.
